Tim Herrington Award
History
In 1987, Region 5 voted to recognize members who had given much to the promotion of daylilies and associated regional activities. It was an award designed to honor the “behind-the-scenes” workers who always quietly contributed but seldom received any formal recognition for their work. The first award given was called the Region 5 Honorarium and was presented in 1988 to Martha Thombley by Regional President Harold McDonell. The award was then renamed the MARTHA THOMBLEY AWARD in her honor. In 1998 the award was changed to the TOM WISE AWARD. At the Fall Meeting in 2023 the Region 5 members voted to change the name of the award to the TIM HERRINGTON AWARD. Starting in 2023 the award will be the TIM HERRINGTON AWARD.
The rules have been simple and straightforward. Written nominations by members are submitted to the Regional President or the awards manager appointed by the RP by August 1 of each year. Then a committee evaluates the nominations to determine the winner which is announced at the annual fall meeting. The award is to be in the form of a medallion.
Management of Awards Process:
All nominations for the Tim Herrington Award will be sent to the Tim Herrington Award Liaison. The rules written on the ballot form are the ones the selection committee should follow. They are:

- The nominee must be an active Region 5 AHS member.
- An award committee, which consists of the chair appointed by the RP, the RP, and local club presidents, will make the final selection.
- The award is to be in the form of a medallion.
