SAVANNAH Club News:
The Savannah Hemerocallis Society had its
first meeting of the New Year on January 19th. at the
Coastal Gardens Bamboo Farm where we all enjoyed
a covered dish supper. With a relatively small group
present, President Caren Blackwell conducted the
Business Meeting, and announced the officers for
2006. (See list above ). Kathy Deloe gave an update
on the daylily display garden at the Bamboo Farm
stating that the bed was full (thanks to all those who
generously donated). She also stated that the only item remaining was the concrete statuary to be purchased, and placed in the garden. Daren Blackwell was able
to locate concrete statuary of a Blue Herring bird for
which the club voted to purchase. Martha Fawcett
gave an update on the plans for the Regional Meeting
which will be held here in Savannah on June 3-4,
2006. Everything is in order, with only a few details
left to polish. We are so excited about being the host
for the Spring Regional Meeting and can hardly wait to see each of you there.
Following the Business Meeting, we were pleased to
have Charles Douglas from Brown’s Ferry Gardens
in Georgetown, S.C. visit with us. He gave a wonderful
slide show presentation of his garden and hybridizing program. Charles is truly an exceptional speaker, and
we thoroughly enjoyed having him. We hope that he
will visit with us again soon.
The following months are going to be extremely busy
for the Savannah Society. We are excited about
having various speakers lined up, projects to
complete, and of course preparing our gardens for
our daylilies as we anxiously anticipate the arrival of
spring. We extend to each of you a warm welcome to Savannah, and invite you to come and visit us the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the coastal gardens Bamboo Farm.
