North Georgia Daylily Society NORTH GEORGIA DAYLILY SOCIETY The club meets on Sunday at 2pm at Family Life Center, North Georgia Daylily Society News The North Georgia Daylily Society held its annual Fall picnic at the beautiful home and garden of Luther and Elaine Beck, also known as Harmony Grove Garden in Commerce. It was a perfect day...sunny and in the high 70’s; just right for enjoying an afternoon outdoors. By the time this is printed in the Georgia Daylily, those temps will be a distant memory. After a short business meeting members and guests enjoyed a bountiful buffet of delicious foods and desserts topped off by an auction of Dan Trimmer’s daylilies. Luther and Elaine were again in charge of purchasing this year’s auction collection and they did another outstanding job. Our club owes a great deal of thanks to both Luther and Elaine. They are charter members of the club and have held various offices and fulfilled many duties over the years. They both wear many hats, personally and professionally, yet find time to continue to donate their time and efforts to the North Georgia Daylily Society. Luther is, also, an established daylily hybridizer...be looking for some more outstanding beauties that he will be introducing. Speaking of hybridizing our club is lucky to have some of the finest hybridizers among us. Our December meeting will showcase their talent. Our December meeting is our annual holiday covered dish meal and club hybridizers slide show. We will get to see future introductions from our local hybridizers. Pat Seaman is one of our club members and hybridizers. Always a regular attendee with her husband Paul. They have missed some meetings this year due to illness and it was great to seem them both at the October picnic. Pat and Paul are both very special and it was great to have them back. We implemented the Membership Awards Program (MAP) in our club this year. As members involve themselves in club activities and attend meetings, they can earn points. These points are equal to dollars and m any members used their points/dollars toward daylily auction purchases. It was nice to see so many members leave with quality daylilies that were paid for in part (or whole) by their dedication and hard work in the club. In July, members voted to start a mentoring program for new members of the club. This program pairs a new member with a seasoned member who would be available to answer any questions about daylilies, such as planting, growing, dividing, etc. and would also call and remind the new member of upcoming meetings and events. New officers were voted on at the October meeting. They are as follows: President : Perry McAllum, Vice President : Ralph Carson, Secretary : Lynn McAllum, Treasurer : Burney Sullivan, Parliamentarian : Joe Wood, Club Reporter : Lynn McAllum, 2009 Show Chair : Perry McAllum and Show Co-Chair : Carolyn Rafter Recent members to the club are Elaine Kelley from Flowery Branch, Margie Minutello of Clarkesville and Robert Simmons of Gainesville. The North Georgia Daylily Society invites everyone to attend our meetings. The door is always open and we’d love to see you! We are looking forward to a new year and will hopefully see our club grow and move in new directions. Officers |
