MGHS Club News:
Santa Claus came to Centerville, Ga. on Saturday, Dec.3, 2005 to participate in spirit with our members as we enjoyed the day. I’m sure he assisted Sara and Billy Dick as they prepared the many gorgeous camellia arrangements that decorated our tables. Several members helped get the party (meeting) room ready while the caterers got all the delicious food and drinks ready. We had approximately 80 members and guests present in their Christmas finery, who all enjoyed the luncheon, complements of the club treasury.  All were bearing gifts and their checkbooks. After lunch Billy Dick presented the new slate of officers. (Listed above)

During the past few years the MGHS has been very active with various projects. One major project, led by Billy Dick and Tom Johnson  at Massee Lane Gardens, was to develop and install a very large and fine daylily garden. MGHS members and growers donated several thousand daylilies, including several hundred different cultivars.  This will be one of the largest daylily gardens, open to the public, in the South.

MGHS furnished speakers for a four-week daylily Extravaganza in June of 2003, 2004 and 2005 at Massee Lane Gardens. This is a wonderful opportunity  to promote daylilies as thousands of visitors from all over the world visit Massee Lane Gardens every year. The gardens are located off of Highway 49 between Fort Valley and Marshallville, Ga.

Our speakers for the Christmas gala were Liz and Jeff  Salter. We enjoyed their slide presentation of their latest cultivars. Their gorgeous 2006 introductions were the main feature.   A “spirited” auction of their beautiful daylilies by Auctioneer Earnest Yearwood was enjoyed by all, and the highest bidders all went home with thinner check books, but smiles on their faces.
