Our speaker for the September 7th meeting was Steven Verner, a Marietta Landscape Architect, who also loves Daylilies. Steven has been featured on HGTV Groundbreakers and he spoke to us about several of his landscape projects. He also provided information to our members about garden and yard maintenance and growing perennials.
Also at our September meeting, it was announced that we have two new Display Gardens in Region 5. David and Camilla Arthur Daylily Garden called “Prissy’s Garden” and Bill and Diana Waldrop’s Daylily Gardens called “Kennesaw Mountain Daylily Gardens” have both been approved. The Waldrops’ Garden is on McDaniel Road and the Arthur’s Garden is across the street in McDaniel Farms Subdivision.

Our Fall Picnic was held on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Bill and Diana Waldrop’s home and garden. We had over 40 members attend and we had a pot luck supper with the club providing the fried chicken. David and Camilla Arthur coordinated a terrific auction from daylilies that had been donated by members of our club. The food was delicious, the friendship delightful and the daylilies beautiful and abundant. The variety of daylilies for silent auction and regular auction ranged from some of the older beautiful ones to new introductions donated by Bill. Jack Rigsby, our treasurer, reported that we made over $2,500.00. At our Picnic we also elected new officers for 2009/2010 and they are listed as follows:

We met again on November 16, 2008, and received a report from Patty Franklin, our Show Chair about our Daylily Show that will take place at the Galleria Mall on June 13, 2009. We discussed whether to have a joint Daylily Show with the Daylily Society of Greater Atlanta. After much discussion it was decided that we will indeed have a joint show. Also, Marge Igyarto, a new member, was elected to be the Co-Chairperson for our Show. Bill said that our Joint Daylily Show will be the most important event of the year. Patty then asked for volunteers to help with the multiple tasks that need to be accomplished to make the show a success. We then enjoyed seeing Bill Waldrop’s Power Point Presentation on his 2009 Introductions.

We are hoping that you will mark your calendars for February 22, 2009. We are so excited to have John Kennebrew, a well known daylily hybridizer in Florida as our first speaker of the Year. We would be pleased to have guests attend our meeting. John will also bring some of his newer daylilies for auction. If you need more information, please call Diana Waldrop at 770-429-0204.
